About Mischa Maisky

ACM Mobile signage 2 2000 2000.jpg

Mischa Maisky is uniquely distinguished as the only cellist in the world to have studied with both Mstislav Rostropovich and Gregor Piatigorsky. Rostropovich praised him as “one of the most outstanding talents of the younger generation of cellists,” noting that Maisky’s playing “combines poetry and exquisite delicacy with great temperament and brilliant technique.”

Born in Latvia, educated in Russia, and later settling in Israel, Maisky has earned international acclaim in major music capitals including London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, New York and Tokyo. A truly world-class musician and a frequent guest at leading international festivals, he has collaborated with many of the world’s foremost conductors, among them Leonard Bernstein, Carlo Maria Giulini, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, James Levine, Charles Dutoit, Yuri Temirkanov, Mariss Jansons, Valery Gergiev, Kirill Petrenko, Paavo Järvi and Gustavo Dudamel.
